So hello again everyone! This time we are coming to you from the beautiful country of the Czech Republic, in what is simply put, one of the most spectacular cities on earth, Prague. I’ve always heard through the grapevine that Prague is a beautiful city, but what we were about to see left us awe-struck. Which is why this next stop I am going to be doing in two parts… Because there is just too much to do and see all at once!!
Now let me just state this one more time, our first visit here I was not, I repeat was NOT… a good photographer. Good thing we will return in two more years! (From which I have much better photos, but we are going in strict order so I can not cheat!)
So here were a few of our first “looks” around!
Prague is the Capital and largest city in the Czech Republic, which is also the historical capital of Bohemia. Not only being the Capital of the kingdom of Bohemia, it was also the main residence of several Holy Roman Emperors, most notable Charles IV. To say this city has seen it’s fair share of history would be a huge understatement. Some say that because of a certain event which happened in the Prague Castle had started the Thirty Year War. We will touch more on that tomorrow when we visit! But first… we need to eat!
And what do we choose? Pizza of course! No photos this time of course because this was before the whole selfie and taking food pictures craze! (But I do have to admit, we do have picture of dinner!)
Onward! We will now head down to the Old Town Square… BEST. PLACE. EVER.
There are just too many awe-inspiring things here to see, so when and if you get to make it here, be prepared to just “be” for a while and take it all in.
One of the most famous is the Prague Astronomical Clock. The clock was first installed in the year 1410, making it the third oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still working. (Quick fact… in 2015 on the clocks 605th birthday, the Orloj, the mechanical clock itself and astronomical dial, appeared on the Google home page as a Google Doodle!)
Another majestic sight is the Church of our Lady before Tyn. (Pictured 3 photos above.) Amazing is a understatment and we didn’t even get to go in… they had it closed off for cleaning. But we did get to go close and look up!
The church has been the main church in the square since the 14th century and is a perfect example of Gothic architecture. It also holds the oldest pipe organ in Prague, which was built-in 1673 and is one of the most representative 17th century organs in Europe! How’s that!
I can’t say it enough, but walking around this city is just simply breathtaking. And HOT when we were there! Good thing for a spot in the grass with cold air!!!
Now it was time to go find a hotel! Which we did, and will show you in the morning!!! But after getting our things unpacked from the car and settled in our room, it was time to head back out to walk around at night!
Even though you can see this from anywhere in the city, the view at night was stunning! The one and only, Prague Castle!
As stated above, this masterpiece of art and architecture stand above all else in the city and you just can’t stop staring. Prague castle is the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic and according to The Guinness Book of World Records, it is the largest ancient castle in the world with over 750,000 sq ft. More about the castle tomorrow when we get to go INSIDE!!! But before we go for now, just one more view!
While we are out and about walking we come across this AH-mazing store where I could have bought everything!! Now that I think about it, I don’t think I bought anything which gives me a very good excuse to buy a plane ticket back!! Here’s a little taste!
Now it’s getting pretty late in the evening and we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow with the Castle and all, so once more it is time to eat!! This time we chose to go with true authentic Czech food and BOY was it delicious!!
Mine was the one on top, homemade goulash, and Paul’s was a huge potato pancake with ham! Mmmmmm, I can actually still smell and taste it! Plus, not only was it dinner time but we earned a beer as well! Cheers everyone!
So with full bellies we leave you for the night! But before we go, here are a few more from our walk around this magnificent city!!
And remember, we have a big day tomorrow!! Here is a little preview of what we get to see then!!
Goodnight everyone, stay tuned!
